Face-Frame vs. Frameless Cabinets: What It Means for Your Doors

IN SHORT

The door does not care what box it hangs on — but its size, boring and hinges do. Crossing between conventions is where refacing orders go wrong.

The door does not care what box it hangs on — but its size, boring and hinges do. Crossing between conventions is where refacing orders go wrong.

The two constructions

Face-frame boxes add a hardwood frame to the carcass front; doors overlay that frame. Frameless 'euro' boxes are bare-edged panels; doors cover nearly the whole face with tight 3 mm reveals.

Hinges and boring

Frameless uses standard 35 mm cup hinges on predictable 37 mm boring; face-frame needs frame-specific hinge arms or adapter plates. Send box photos with your schedule and we bore correctly the first time.

Ordering doors across systems

For frameless: opening plus overlay each side, minus reveal. For face-frame: frame opening plus your chosen overlay. Our order sheet asks for the system precisely so refacing fits like factory.

Frequently asked

Do you supply doors for both systems?

Yes — sized and bored to either convention from your measurements.

Which system is better?

Frameless maximises storage and suits modern lines; face-frame reads traditional and forgives old walls. Both take the full design range.
