35 mm Hinge Boring: Patterns, Distances and the Spec That Prevents Surprises

IN SHORT

'Standard boring' is not a spec — it is a hope. These four numbers make it one.

'Standard boring' is not a spec — it is a hope. These four numbers make it one.

The pattern numbers

Cup Ø35 mm, depth ~12.5; bore distance (cup edge to door edge) typically 3–6 mm depending on hinge and overlay; screw holes at 45/9.5 for machine-insert hinges. State all of it or state the hinge model — either fully defines the CNC program.

Setouts and counts

Top and bottom hinges usually centre 90–110 mm from door ends; add a third hinge past ~1,200 mm height, a fourth past ~2,000 or on heavy gloss tall doors. We default to weight-rated counts unless your schedule overrides.

Special cases

Push-latch doors bore the same but check reduced-crank hinges; bifolds and corner solutions need their hardware named. Glass-frame doors get boring in the frame stile — confirm stile width fits your cup distance.

Frequently asked

Can doors ship unbored?

Yes — unbored on request, though factory boring is more accurate than site jigs.

Do you bore for any hinge brand?

Any standard 35 mm cup system — name the model or send the pattern PDF.
